My travel photos and stories

Luang Prabang, Laos

It is 10 years ago that we visited Laos. We visited the charming town of Luang Prabang to be precise, and exploring some of its surroundings as well. And well, I fell totally in love with this place! I remember like it was yesterday listening to the chanting of the munks so very early in the morning, across the road from our hotel, and all by myself. I went up, and crossed the road, just to stand there in the dark, and in the total quiet, with the only sound being that of the singing munks, sharing the beautiful sounds coming from the temple. During the day we visited many temples, visited the vibrant morning market, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and vibe of the town, the friendly people. In the evening we went to some of the restaurants and enjoyed some of the best food I have ever eaten. And finally, not to forget, a 2 day hike in the hills around Luang Prabang, visiting a remote village. A humbling but fascinating experience.

Åke and I have never stopped thinking back to that visit, and discussed often that we should go back here one day, but for a longer visit. And now, 10 years later, it seems that day has come! We are very busy planning a return visit, but not only for a few days, but a more expansive trip of 3 weeks. The plans are to go rather off the beaten path, travelling overland all the way from the north of Laos to the very south.

And during our travel planning I bumped into my pile of photos of our first trip to Luang Prabang, of which I share just a few of them below. Hopefully our dreams of a revisit will come true, and I can share new memories and impressions of Laos at the end of this year :-)
